A minesweeper roguelike. Nine floors, permadeath, and loot you only keep if you make it out.

Uncover tiles to cross each floor. Numbers tell you how many dangers are adjacent. Mark the ones you're sure about, sweep the ones you've solved, be careful everywhere else.

The difference from minesweeper is that uncovering a monster doesn't end the run. It hits you once and then stays on the board. If you have a weapon you can click it to kill it and take its souls. If you don't, it's an obstacle you have to route around.

The descent

Nine floors, each with its own tileset, monsters, and a single warden. From floor 5 onward the stairs stay locked until you find and kill that floor's warden.

Boards grow as you go, from 12×12 at the start to 96×96 on the last floor, with a scrolling camera and a minimap.

Treasure has to be extracted

Locked vaults hold 12 unique treasures. Getting one is the easy part — they only count if you finish the run alive. Die on floor 8 carrying three of them and you lose all three. Anything you extract is saved permanently to the Hall of Trophies.

Five classes

  • Hermit — scrolls are twice as effective
  • Magician — stronger potions, longer buffs, wider wand blasts
  • Knight — starts with a high-tier weapon, +1 Atk and +1 Def
  • Rogue — traps miss 20% of the time, and a quarter of each floor's traps start marked
  • Fool — takes double damage and can't use scrolls

Content

  • 117 pieces of equipment across 9 slots
  • Cursed items: cheaper and stronger, with a hidden Max HP penalty
  • Two currencies — gold for regular shops, souls for the broker
  • Shops roll their stock once and keep it, and equipment sells out
  • 8 relics with passive effects
  • Bombs and three wand types, for killing, freezing and revealing
  • 26 achievements, including one per class

Controls

Full mouse and keyboard support. Left-click to reveal, right-click to flag, click a completed number to sweep around it. Arrows or WASD move a cursor, Space reveals, F flags, M opens the menu.

Playtest build

Windows and Linux. Feedback I'm after:

  • Difficulty — it's supposed to be hard, so tell me where it's unfair rather than just hard
  • Class balance, especially whether the Fool is playable
  • The extraction gamble — do you push one more floor with treasure in hand, or bail?
  • Bugs, and any tile that gave you wrong information
